How to Use a Ceramic Candle House

What Is a Ceramic Candle House?

A ceramic candle house is a miniature with a hollow interior designed to hold a tea light candle. Most candle houses (but not all!) are also for essential oils; check essential oil usage here.

What You Need

Step-by-Step: How to Use Your Candle House

  1. Place on a stable, heat-safe surface. Keep away from curtains, books, or anything flammable. Then, insert the tea light. Lift the candle house and place a tea light candle inside the base or through the door opening, depending on the model.
  2. Light the tea light. Use a long match or lighter to reach inside and light the candle.
  3. Enjoy the glow. The candle light will radiate through the windows and any decorative openings, casting a warm, flickering glow.
  4. Extinguish safely. When you’re done, blow out the candle. Careful - the house will be hot after usage. Allow the ceramic to cool fully before handling or moving it.

Styling Tips

  • Group them together. A cluster of two or three candle houses at different heights creates a charming village effect on a shelf or table.
  • Seasonal styling. Candle houses look especially beautiful during autumn and winter evenings.
  • Mix with other ceramic pieces. Combine with aroma oil burners or incense houses for a complete display.

Safety First

  • Only use tea light candles. Larger candles will most likely not fit.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Allow the ceramic to cool fully before moving or cleaning.
  • Do not place directly on surfaces that can be damaged by heat — use a ceramic tile or trivet if needed.
